Bloomingdale, Ml — After receiving approval by the Road Commission, Bloomingdale Communications has broke ground on its $12 million fiber network infrastructure in the initial area of Bloomingdale. Steve Shults, General Manager of Bloomingdale Communications, says, “We are hoping customers in this Phase 1 fiber build site will be able to get connected to our fiber services by late October or early November of this year. Fiber will provide access to significantly faster internet speeds and greater service reliability than our previous infrastructure.”

The multi-phase project could span three years. Phase 2 will cover the remaining Bloomingdale area, and Bloomingdale Communications expects to award the contracts for this area in October 2018 with work beginning as soon as the weather allows in spring 2019 and continuing into 2020.

Future phases of this fiber project will take place in the Village of Bloomingdale and townships including Columbia and Waverly in Van Buren County along with Cheshire and Lee Townships in Allegan County. The project also has potential to bring modern internet and TV services to the adjacent, underserved rural areas as well as lake associations and developing subdivisions.
